And Speaking of Houses .....

Over at The Toymaker you can find a downloadable printed template to make Madame Fortunata's House, as well as Professor Pumpkin's truck and loads of other toy goodies. This one is just printed off on ordinary copy paper, just to see. It was so easy - cut, fold and stick and hey presto ....

An Awfully Big Art Adventure ... 3D House ...

Rosie and Linda's Awfully Big Art Adventure this week is to make a 3D house ....
Mine's made from a (now) empty box of those choccies that grow on you - and it was a small one - honestly ......
All the stamps are from Paper Artsy and the roof is an un-named stamp from Stampers Anonymous ......

Another Soul Journal Page ....

I'm now a week and a bit behind, which is pretty bad considering a week and a bit ago, I had caught up - lol. This page is all about Doodling ........Hope you like it ......

I've Been Tagged - Again .....

Ifat, one of my SBS 19 Sisters has tagged me. I feel really bad on a number of levels - (a) because I don't visit my Sisters as often as I should; (b) I was tagged a couple of weeks or so ago; (c) and I am thinking 'Oh no, not again' - lol.
So because I am feeling in quite a contrary mood I am going to break all the rules -

1. I am going to link my tagger and list the rules (!) on my blog
2. I am not going to share seven facts about myself on my blog, some random, some weird
3. I am not going to tag seven people at the end of my post by leaving their names with links to their blogs
4. It follows that I am not going to let them know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog

What I am going to do is visit all my SBS 19 Sisters - see you later ......

Halloween Party ....

This is a first for me - a Blog Party to celebrate Halloween. The party is the brainchild of Kathryn who is leading the second Soul Journey. Over on her Blog, she has a list of the other party goers, which are all worth visiting ......
Last week was a bit on the challenging side and I wasn't able to do all of what I wanted to but here are my party pieces .....
I didn't know (until I googled it) that Halloween is an ancient Celtic festival, known as Samhain, which is celebrated at the end of the harvest system. The ancient Gaels believed that Halloween dissolved the boundary between the living and the dead; and the dead became danagerous for the living by causing problems such as disease and damage to crops.
Trick or Treat is a fairly recent Halloween tradition and I remember taking my children out when they were small. Sadly, nowadays, Trick or Treat has a bad name here, not just in the towns but in the rural areas as well and the local Police provide door stickers to display in an effort to deter youngsters.
I have to confess, I don't open the door .....

I haven't done pumpkins for years but this year I carved three in honour of The Gorgeous One aka Finley .... As I say I hadn't done this for years and the lids were a bit wonky but they sort of looked as they should and I still have all my fingers- lol .

Most importantly, Fin seemed to like sitting amongst them .....
One thing that I still do every year is gourds. A local farm shop grows ornamental ones and they make lovely table decorations which can last nearly through to the spring. I give them two or three coats of clear varnish to help make them last ......
And finally a recipe for Barmbrack, a yeasted bread, which my friend Eamon (a true Irishman) at work told me about.
The bread is traditionally baked with various objects inside, which had a meaning to the person who got it in their slice - a pea (the person would not marry that year); a stick "to beat one's wife with" (the person would have an unhappy marriage or be in disputes); the cloth or rag (the person would have bad luck or be poor; the coin (the person would enjoy good fortune or be rich); and the ring (the person would be wed within the year).
The recipe is over on Wikipedia here ......

Hope you all have a good weekend .....

An Awfully Big Art Adventure - An Altered Tin ...

The challenge over at Rosie and Linda's this week has an environmentally friendly and green theme - alter a tin ...... I don't generally eat tinned stuff but after ferreting around in the back of the kitchen cupboard I found a tin of baked beans. I didn't really fancy beans on toast, so they are in the fridge (maybe later) and the tin was washed out.
So, what can you do with a tin? I didn't dare attempt cutting holes out of it with scissors and pliers (I once had a most unfortunate experence opening a tin of corned beef, which involved copious amounts of blood, fainting and five stitches) so I stuck with the old faithfuls - Alcohol Inks, my Crop-a-Dile and some eyelets.
I thought the end result was pretty boring really, so I decided to use it as a vase. I shoved a piece of that florist's foam in the tin (gosh that stuff gets everywhere) and stamped out Fresh Bloom by Stampendous a number of times, water coloured the flowers with Aquatone sticks, used gel pens to highlight the stamens and stuck them to florist's wire. The curly bits are pieces of that Japanese cord beginning with 'M', which I can't remember the name of - lol.
The tin still looked boring, so I put ribbon through the eyelets and put some smaller stamped flowers around it.
I took the photo before I went to work this morning. The light was really bad outside and it was raining anyway, so this was taken indoors - flowers look great - shame about the tin .....

Soul Journal Book Mark Swap ....

One of the things I only got half round to doing with my first Soul Journal project was to take part in the Book Mark Swap. The second Soul Journal journey, being led by Kathryn, is having another swap. As I had already scanned my favourite pages from SJ No. 1, I decided to use those - after all, waste not want not ..... and I thought I would share these with you as well ..... all I've got to do now is post them off to Florida - just wish I could hand deliver them - lol .....And not being one to boast but .... I logged into the Soul Journal Yahoo Group this afternoon and I was stunned and thrilled to bits to see that Kathryn has chosen one of my pages as this week's art for the Group's Home Page. Although it is included in my last post, I had to put it here as well - as I say I'm not one to brag .....

More Soul Journal No. 2 Pages ....

It was such a lovely day today, that I sat out in the garden with a coffee and a couple of chocolate biscuits and did the journalling on my latest Soul Journal pages.

There was no breeze and I ended up with my Acrylic Dabbers, a Flower Stencil, a Mustard Seed Distress Ink Pad and a Swirl Stamp from the Rhonna Farrer Swirls V2 plate - quite the little workshop al fresco ....

The prompts for the last two weeks were Healing Love and I so did not follow the prompt - lol; and Personal Lexicon, where in true me style, got completely carried away ....

I think it was only meant to be a double page spread - me - I did four pages - the whole alphabet (or most of it anyway). I have caught up now but for how long - lol
I am really pleased with the way these pages have turned out.

There's quite a few layers - torn old dictionary pages, gesso, watered down acrylic paint, pictures, journalling, more acrylic paint (from the Dabbers), stencilled flowers, gold swirls - all making loads of layers (credit to Suzi Blu for teaching me that)

Blog Candy Alert ....

Jennie over at The Artistic Stamper has yet more Blog Candy on offer this week - a Jamboree Bag (remember them - I do I'm ashamed to say - lol) of vintage and found things and a bag of watch pieces. Pop over to say hi to Jennie and get yourself a chance to win .... You have to be in it to win it .....

I've Got An Award - Part 2

My blogging pal, Alison, has given me the I Love Your Blog Award back. Not because she doesn't like me but because she does - how sweet is that ....
I am not going to go through the process again, having done it only a couple of hours ago and I'm off to have my tea now - so the original seven can have the Award again - lol

An Awfully Big Art Adventure ... ATC Art Doll ......

The Awfully Big Art Adventure this week over at Rosie and Linda's is to create an ATC Art Doll. Fine, I thought. I like making ATC's and I like making Art Dolls but there was a but - and a big one at that - ATC's are small and Art Dolls are big. Oh well - onwards and upwards .... and this is what I came up with - and this Art Doll certainly can do anything - bit like me really - lol .... Her name is Amy ......
Here is Amy all folded up ......
This is how Amy opens out ....
And here's Amy striking a pose with a bit of attitude .....Right, that's my holiday over and it's back to work tomorrow. My final bit of relaxation is to do a bit more with my Soul Journal - loads of gesso and paint sloshing around in the kitchen.
Have a good week everyone .....
PS - Just realised how bad the photos are. That'll teach me to take photos in the garden this time of year at 6pm when it's nearly dark - lol. I'll try and replace them tomorrow ...

I've Got An Award .....

My friend Ed has very kindly given me an Award - thank you so much Ed .....I now have to name seven Blogs that I love to visit, so here they are. They all make beautiful art and they all have other qualities -
1. Linda - who is kind hearted, inspirational and supportive
2. Gail - who is very witty and makes me laugh
3. Alison - who is kind and generous with her comments
4. Nic - who always makes me smile
5. Linda - another kind and generous person with her comments
6. Kathryn - who is inspirational
and finally no 7 ....
would go to my friend Sue (who still hasn't got a Blog but should have one) who is kind and a good mate ....

Christmas Is Coming .....

My daughter had announced that some time during my holiday she would like to spend a day with me making Christmas cards. After having a rummage through my Christmas stash, she decided that I needed new, more and different, bundled me into the car and headed for The Glitter Pot, where we had a lovely time ....
There was then a lull over the next few days and then on Friday she turned up at 8.30am with The Gorgeous One, aka Finley, bouncy chair, play mat, and half the contents of his wardrobe and her fridge. A day, I thought, staying for the weekend more like - lol. I casually mentioned that I thought we needed 8" x 8" Xmas papers (or bigger) and off we went again back to The Glitter Pot .... lol.
We were back by 11am and that was it - she was off like a rocket .... I didn't get to make any cards because I was detailed to feed, keep The Gorgeous One amused, run up and downstairs for foam squares, chalks, gel pens and anything else she thought she would need and keep her fed and watered ....
Here's some of the cards she made .... and yes she did go home but left the mess ....Saturday came along, complete with No. 1 son .... Christmas cards were put on hold ,as the day was spent commiserating with him about his love life, watching re-runs of Top Gear and Jaws 2 and generally running around constantly preparing food (that boy is an eating machine - lol).
Sunday dawned all grey miserable and raining .... so I sent a text to both my darling children saying that unless there was a real disaster, I was not available .... So here's some of the Christmas cards that I made .......
The first ones are some lovely Penny Black stamps that we bought .....
Christmas Trees also took my fancy. I just love the Ribbon Tree stamp set by Woodware and, of course, Paper Artsy .....
I had also bought a Penny Black clear stamp set - 12 Days of Christmas - and this is what I made with that ....The end result - we all got something out of the weekend - lol ....

Soul Journal - No. 2

Here's something else I have been working on over the last couple of weeks and got round to taking some photos today.
Soul Journal No. 2 is being prompted by Kathryn and is continuing on from the first Journey with Sarah Whitmire.
Each spread is prepared following a series of daily prompts over a week, for you to interpret as you will.
Here are the first three weeks .......
The first page is called Instant Gratification ....The prompt for the second page of the layout was interesting - to photocopy office stuff - paper clips, staples, elastic bands etc. To 'show' the illusion of Pressed Glass, the whole page is covered with a sheet of acetate....The prompts in the second week were all about giving yourself Permission ....
The next week was all about things Lost and Found (Found has already been posted to the Arty Girlz challange last week, so I won't repeat it) ....
This week is about creating your Personal Lexicon which looks great fun and will give me some much needed practice with my journalling, as my handwriting is appalling - but first I have to do last week's - lol.

A Crafting Disaster ... Well Almost ....

But as in all the best films, all was not lost and the day was won ....
Some of you may have looked at the slideshow (it's gone now) showing photos of part of the Learn Something New Every Day project by Shimelle, that I have been working on during September. You prepared a page each day (I did - honest - lol) following a series of daily prompts about the things that happened to you (or not) and the lessons you learnt.Anyways, I caught up on the last week and finished the last page this afternoon. I had always had the idea that I would bind all the pages together with my Bind It All, using the largest wires that Zutter do but I have to confess I was a little bit doubful because the pages were extremely thick.
I went off to give it some more thought and have my tea - smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with melon to follow, always good thinking food - lol. After my feast I felt a bit more confident, so I cleared the decks, punched the first page, then the second, then the third and I couldn't believe it - I had punched the wrong edge of the third page !!!!
The air was a rather fetching shade of blue but I desisted from throwing it across the room as I usually do (after all a lot of work had gone into this). So I went and had a large bowl of ice cream - purely for medicinal purposes you understand, came back, set to with a craft knife, made each page a different size and put them all on a book ring. Not a particularly good photo but I feel a whole heap better for writing this down and - I quite like the book in its new form. Just the covers to do now ......
